Entrepreneurship as a Subject of Economists’ Research

The complexity and multidimensional character of entrepreneurship cause it to be a subject of research of many sciences (e.g. sociology, psychology, management); however, the results obtained by different trends of economics are especially imposing. Nowadays, they still constitute the source of inspiration for the successive generations of researchers of this phenomenon as well as provide knowledge about various aspects of entrepreneurship, about different functions and roles that an entrepreneur plays at particular stages of economic (and social) development. The article presents in a synthesising way the systematics of the most important theories (concepts) of entrepreneurship originating from the field of economics and recalls those which have had the strongest influence on our contemporary understanding of the essence of this phenomenon. Among the latter are the concepts of entrepreneurship which emphasize risk and uncertainty, the dynamics of market processes and making a decision about the allocation of resources.
