Promotion of Polish exports

For several years we have been recording a significant surplus of imports over exports. The reasons for this are varied, but can be boiled down to two basic elements: economic policy (including exchange rate policy, customs policy, non-tariff restrictions, etc.) and the low competitiveness of Polish enterprises, also caused by the economic policy pursued, but also by the inherited low technical level and – which is mentioned least often, and which is very important – the uncompetitive structure of state, local government and social institutions. Triggering real growth in Polish exports is primarily a matter of a different economic policy. It is also important to use the right tools, in the form of institutions implementing government policy, along the lines of the system successfully used by other OECD countries. This system has been particularly successful for Japan and the countries of South-East Asia. All countries with developed market economies use various mechanisms to support domestic producers and service providers in order to level the playing field in competition with foreign competitors using institutions in their home countries. The need for a different economic policy from the current one and, above all, for an increase in the state’s participation in the creation of economic processes is not just a postulate of a narrow group of economists, placed outside the circle by the majority with liberal views, but an obvious truism, if not for scientists, then certainly for politicians, fearing the outbreak of large-scale social conflicts, but also for the majority of Polish society. The reasons lie in the state of our economy. The economy of our country is showing, especially in the last two years, a number of very worrying symptoms. The rate of growth of national income is falling, unemployment is rising, and the trade balance deficit is increasing.
