Experimental opportunities for research into the intrinsic value carriers of environmental goods
Some goods, including environmental goods, may have a non-use value, i.e. a value which does not result from the possibility of directly using the good. The characteristics that such a good would need to have have have been defined by the Polish Constitution. Krutilla [1967] defines these characteristics. A number of researchers also postulate the existence of intrinsic value as a component of extra-use value. Intrinsic value could, for example, be provided by abstract concepts such as species [Rolston, 1988]. On the basis of this theory, the consumer, given the choice of to eliminate the last five representatives of a dying species, or five individuals of another, more abundant species, will choose the latter option.
The intrinsic value of the endangered species will prevail in this case, which would thus be destroyed. Intrinsic value and its noniki (e.g. species) will be the focus of this work.
