Optimal contract for controllers in public transport. Experimental testing of the principal – supervisor – agent model

A problem for public transport companies is corruption among ticket inspectors. The aim of this article is to find an optimal contract between public transport companies and controllers that motivates controllers to work in line with the interests of the company. An appropriate remuneration system for controllers can eliminate the problem of bribes and increase the profits of transport companies. The results of the analysis of the theoretical model were contrasted with the results of an economic experiment in which students simulated the behaviour of passengers and public transport controllers under laboratory conditions.
