Economic Stability Amidst Geopolitical Uncertainty

Viktoriya Tytok (Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Ukraine) Mushfig Guliyev (Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Azerbaijan)

Motivation

Geopolitical instability in the form of armed conflicts, disruptions in international trade, a shift in political leadership, and a general realignment of international relations has deep consequences for all of the world’s countries. Those countries facing such hardships must develop innovative strategies to keep their economies on track and make them less dependent on the global context. The national economies are becoming increasingly interconnected, which has an impact on macroeconomic stability and international trade, requiring an urgent re-evaluation of economic strategies (Afonso, Alves & Monteiro, 2024).

Studying the impact of geopolitical instability on economies is essential to understanding the implications for business strategies, market behavior, and the investment climate. Wars and shifting alliances call into question the long-term sustainability of international economic cooperation, as well as existing research and speculation on market stability and economic growth (Campos, Heid & Timini, 2024).

Nowadays, there is a lot of interdependence between economies, and it is important for states to understand the link between geopolitical risks and economic performance. Economic policies that were once designed for a stable environment are no longer as effective and must take into account the dynamism of today’s world. Therefore, studying the economic consequences of geopolitical instability contributes to the development of strategies that can help soften the impact of crises (Jawadi et al., 2024).

Previous studies demonstrated that geopolitical conflicts alter trade routes, change alliances, and cause a lot other major disturbances, all of which directly influence economic development. Therefore, analyzing the intersection of politics and economy provides new look into how economies can remain stable amid external shocks.

We welcome papers focussing on the following questions:

•       How does geopolitical instability affect economics in both developed and emerging economies?

•       How can financial markets adapt to the economic changes?

•       What role do trade agreements play in maintaining economic stability?

•       How do changes in the global power influence international economic relations?

•       What factors influence international investment in countries with unstable situations?

•       How does martial law affect economic decision-making in businesses?

•       How do geopolitical tensions affect global supply chains and international trade?

•       What are the long-term economic effects of Donald Trump’s “America First” policies?
